Beach Sports
Boracay is an island that is always alive with activities. As well as
water sports, Boracay caters to beach sports with international
competitions held annually. So if you need an adrenaline rush under the
sun, here are a few things you can try:
Ultimate Frisbee
Ultimate frisbee is a well-known sport on Boracay with pick-up games
happening regularly at the beach front of Leah's Bar, Hey Jude, or Bom
Bom Bar. The Philippine Ultimate Association hosts the Boracay Open
Asian Beach Ultimate Tournament here annually. The Boracay Dragons,
Boracay's number one ultimate frisbee team, reached the finals of the
Brazil for World Championship Beach Ultimate in 2007.
Beach Volleyball
Pick-up games are always welcome at the net outside Seawind Resort or
Steakhouse Restaurant. The thrill of a volleyball game with new friends
on the beach can be quite infectious to both locals and tourists.
Tournaments are sometimes organized here where people from all over the
world register for friendly competition.
Beach Tennis
Looking for a good game of tennis? You can join a friendly game at the
beachfront of Aria and Cafe del Sol. There are also two quality courts
you can rent next to Nigi Nigi resort with flood lights for evening
games. The private Tirol Tennis Club near the Tirol and Tirol resort,
however, boasts the best hard courts on the island and is sure to get
your adrenaline pumping.
Rock/Wall Climbing
Climbing enthusiasts can check out the D'Wall Climbing Gym near D'Mall
- it's got affordable rates and is a great wall for all ages. For those
looking for something a little more challenging, the Pink Patio Rock
Wall in Patio Pacific resort maintains the only rock wall in Boracay. A
competition called Hang Loose at Pink Patio Boracay is held here at
their 42-foot fiberglass wall - consistent with international
standards. It is sponsored by the National Sports Wall Climbing
Competition.
Golf
Boracay golfing is practically synonymous to
the Fairways and Bluewater 18-hole Par 72 World-Class Golf Course.
Designed by Graham Marsh, the course is nestled in a lush tropical
setting overlooking the South China Sea. Its golf carts are complete
with a GPS system and it has a pro shop for golf accessories. For those
looking to just work on their swing, the Royal Park Hotel offers a
great golf range with instructors available.
Zorb
If you have you ever wanted to ride down a hill inside of a giant
inflated rubber ball, the Zorb Park located in Yapak will let you do
just that. You and 2 other friends can just climb into the zorb, a
giant 3 meter ball, and take the ride of your life! Choose from either
the Harness - where they strap you in and you roll head over heels - or
the Hydro - where you are sealed inside the ball with some water
without being strapped in. You may also choose between a straight or
zigzag path.
