Taxis

If you are looking for comfort and you have money to spare when exploring the city, the taxi is the appropriate mode of transportation for you.

Taxis come in different models and colors. Most are white while some use other colors to make it easy for taxi service companies to recognize their own taxis.

Taxis are widely available in Metro Manila and other major cities such as Baguio, Cebu, Bacolod, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro. When not in the streets, taxis can be found in airports, bus and ferry terminals, and in front of hotels, shopping malls, and other establishments.

If you want to go around Metro Manila by riding a taxi, here are some things to bear in mind:

  • At the time of writing, the current flag down taxi rate in Manila is Php30. The fare increases by Php2.50 for every 250 or 300 meters.

  • Every taxi in Metro Manila has and should have a meter. Otherwise, get out and flag down another taxi. In general, taxis usually abound the streets of Manila so you do not have to wait for too long before another one comes.

  • If you are following a strict schedule and you don't want to wait for a taxi, you can call a reputable taxi service company. A taxi will arrive at your designated place and time.

  • Make sure to have small Philippine peso denominations for the fare. Unfortunately, there are some taxi drivers who would say that they don't have change even if they do.

  • You can give a tip, though this is optional.

Riding a taxi is a convenient way to reach places within the city. The fare may be more expensive compared to riding a jeepney, but riding a taxi will make you comfortable in your trip.
