Tricycles / Pedicabs

Tricycles and pedicabs are popular modes of public transportation for short distances and when going to villages, subdivisions, and barangays where the roads are narrow. These are also widely available in remote areas where jeepneys and other means of public transport are not allowed to operate.

A tricycle is a three-wheeled vehicle which is built by attaching a sidecar to a motorcycle. It can seat about five passengers. On the other hand, a pedicab, or cycle rickshaw, is also a three-wheeled vehicle in which the sidecar is attached to a bicycle and can carry two or three passengers. Operating a pedicab is a great form of exercise and is environment-friendly.

Just like the over-decorated jeepneys, tricycles and pedicabs also receive special attention from their owners or drivers. Each is painted with bright colors and is adorned with all sorts of items such as lights, cartoon characters, and religious items. By decorating the tricycle or pedicab, one can express himself and add a bit of personal touch.

Both vehicles are durable enough to carry passengers and/or goods safely even in rough arterial roads. Fares are inexpensive, so make sure to always have loose change when traveling by tricycle or pedicab.

You can find queues of tricycles and pedicabs everywhere. They are modest means of transportation that can bring you wherever you want to go. You may not be very comfortable when riding any of these vehicles, but the short trip will always remind you of Filipino ingenuity and creativity.
